The boys and I took mana Linda out for a special birthday dinner. They also showered her with gifts they had made and even bought including a live bunny and guinea pigs!! As you can see below, I think she was surprised.

And, those we love to love on every day here in Mozambique, for that really is About Us
|
Greetings! We are Jimmy and Linda Read, currently
serving as missionaries for Iris Ministries in
Mozambique. We are part of an awesome team that is
helping to care for abandoned and/or orphaned kiddos
and are at present overseeing a dorm of forty-two
teenage boys here at Zimpeto Children's Center. Both
Linda and I grew up in southern Texas, in the U.S.,
and had been living in Gonzales serving as youth
pastors for several years before we made the move to
Africa in May of 2005. Besides caring for our dorm of
boys, we also work in the areas of Hospitality, Security
and leadership with our wonderful directors Steve and
Ros Lazar.
We have an incredible family back in Texas, both
physical and spiritual, and look forward each year to
our furlough when we are able to spend time with them.
Linda and I have a passion for seeing others come to
intimacy - especially intimacy with their loving Heavenly
Father and intimacy with their mate. We believe we
were born for this cause. In fact, if someone were to
describe us, I think it would be simple. We love to
worship the Lord and we love each other. Everything
else that we are or do really flows out of these two. It
has been such a blessing for us to minister to young
people, both in the U.S. and now here in Africa. We
hope that He will continue to use the simple yet deep
passions that we have for Him in worship and for one
another to bring others into His presence and into a life
of abandoned love.
Mozambique is a very poor country with very beautiful
people. Because of past war, floods, poverty, and
disease, it is also somewhat of a "parentless" nation
where the median age remains nineteen. The young
people are looking for hope and looking for role
models. Linda and I know that we are only "two" but we
are convinced that we're a part of His great and
wonderful strategy for this country. We can love the
one in front of us, and we can parent these boys that
God has placed with us, and we will continue to pray to
the Lord of the Harvest because in Him there is no lack.
"Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6 NIV
